Toid's Roundup

What a weekend! Another great weekend in college football. I'm so glad baseball is over so I don't have to watch those pathetic highlights mixed in with the top plays in college football. If any did NOT see the LSU-Kentucky finish, oh my goodness, I think that's the best finish in college football I've ever watched. For those of you that didn't get to see it, I'm sure you will, but Kentucky kicked the field goal with 12 seconds left to go up by 3 points over LSU. They kicked it off and stopped LSU inside their own 20. Eight seconds remained on the clock. A pass up the middle got LSU a first down, paused the clock for a bit, 2 seconds remained. Meanwhile on the Kentucky bench, their coach was being drenched in gatorade pre-celebrating their win. In the background, you could see fans already jumping over the railing to run on the field. The final play is snapped, the quarterback scrambles, and throws up the hail mary pass. It's tipped, and that's it, it's ballgame, Kentucky upset, LSU. BUT WAIT! It's tipped again, to a receiver, and that receiver then bobbles the ball three times and then comes up with it, and falls into the endzone! LSU wins! I was amazed. And to think I was contemplating going snowboarding this weekend. I'm glad I didn't, not only was their good football on, but there are over 70 auto accidents on I-70 (which got closed down stranding everyting) in the mountains which got a foot of snow today. Expecting another foot tomorrow and will continue to have it closed, due to fear of avalanche. Wow.
Navy. You know it's a good weekend of football when Navy puts the pressure on anybody. But not just anybody, but Notre Dame! A team they haven't beat since dinosaurs roamed the prairies. Ok, so it hasn't been *that* long, but it has been since the 60's. Notre Dame held it together and came back at the end to pull it out. Their team was just better conditioned (not to mention better players) and just outlasted Navy, which put up a vailiant effort.
Ohio State. How lucky can this team get! It came down to the final play for them to pull out a victory against Purdue. Purdue is a good team, but they don't have Drew Brees. I think Maurice Clarrett is an ok running back, but I've never seen somebody who is *that* good, get hurt as much as he does. I think he's perfect NFL material, not because he's all that, but because he's good and get's hurt a lot. You see, the problem I have with the NFL is, that players have figured out if they get hurt, they don't even have to play and can collect their paychecks. See Terrel Davis before Denver finally caught on to this. Mark my words, this guy will be the same way when he gets to the NFL. He'll get a big paycheck, but he'll miss a lot of games due to injuries, and for that reason, I wouldn't want him playing for me. Anyhow, I don't think Ohio State could beat Iowa. I said that last week and I'll say it again. Iowa hung probably Ohio State's offensive production for the year on Northwestern today.
Fiesta Bowl. With Oklahoma's loss today, it makes the BCS picture more interesting. OU still has three-four games remaining, (three regular season, and possible big 12 championship) That's plenty of time for them to make up ground. If OSU loses to Meeeeechigan, then I think OU has a valid claim to be in the championship game. If Texas doesn't go to the Big12 championship game that will put me fully in the playoff camp. I think the BCS is good, because unlike every other major sport, it makes the regular season interesting. I mean, just look at college basketball. Who the heck really cares if you lose before March? Look at the NFL, you can lose 2-3 games and still be in great shape come the end of the season. Not so in college football. However, if for some reason, a team that doesn't even make it to the championship game in their own conference makes it to the national championship game, I'm going to explode. I think the BCS is good, and we need it, but we need it to determine seeds for a playoff, not the national championship game. Since OU lost, and Ohio State has a good chance of losing, my current national championship game at this point is Miami being administered a good butt waxing by Washington St. in Tempe.
This week, I happened to go 9-1 w/ 1BP, which is a personal best. Had Oklahoma pulled it out against an unranked A&M squad I would have been perfect. Gugals and Aaron weren't far behind going 7-3. Aaron got a BP for the bonus game, as Hampton made Bethune looked like roadkill in their woodshed slaughter. Here's to a tight race! It seems like everyweek, we have a new leader, and this is my first time, to ever lead the picks outright without counting bonus points. See ya next week.
