BCS and Pac-10
September 11, 2002 by Gugals

Well, well, well, well, well. I'm back from my two year hiatus and I'm as cool as the other side of the pillow. In case you don't know me I wrote sports articles for the Oklahoma Daily in Norman. Then the other day Matt asked me to write a column every once in while with my predictions and comments. Unlike the Daily though, this time I can write about whatever I want and have no deadlines on Toid's staff and the benefits were to hard to pass up.

OK that's enough of an intro let's get right down to it. This article will deal with the BCS and the PAC TEN. The BCS is a dying dinosaur that just needs to be ethenized[sic] as soon as possible, I mean come on a team makes the national championship and does not even win its own conference. What would have happened if Nebraska won? However, we know that the bigs-wigs will not give up their money and extra lard, so we'll just have to accept that and move on. I would like to see a 16 team playoff to replace the Bull-Crap System. This way the conferences that are not one of the Bull-Crap System conferences actually have a chance to win. I mean really, we all know that the BCS has so much mofia money coming into it that even the voters for the ESPN/USA poll will not be revealed for their own safety, yet this poll decides who goes to the national championship. When will the PAC TEN get the respect it deserves again, when the playoffs begin. For instance, Oregon was ranked second last year and are only 13th now, however, other teams like Tenn, Florida and Georgia are higher. I say put the ending record from last years poll be the first poll of the new season, this however makes to much sense because the media voters only have 1 and a half brain cells and it takes a total of two brain cells to do this. We need to start a grassroots program to get a playoff when the BCS ends, whoever thinks we don't need a playoff ask the coaches and fans. There could still be smaller bowl games for the smaller schools and some of the bowls can even be part of the playoffs if they work it out that way. If you have any questions comments just email them to gugals@toid.net and I'll put it in my next article. Next week's article will deal with how well the PAC TEN is doing so far this year and why the schools from Florida are to scared to go to the West Coast, in fact if I remember correctly the last team to beat Miami was Washington in Seattle, think Miami is going back there or Eugene or Corvallis, I don't think so. PAC TEN record after two weeks 14-3, Big Ten (who still can't seem to count to eleven) 16-6, Big 12 18-7 and the conference that likes to lay down and play dead the Sun Belt conference who after starting out of the gate kind of slow, meaning nobody won a game is now 2-13 the sky's the limit, why don't they just let Baylor in that conference so at least they would feel at home. I'll be back next week or whenever I feel like it.
